Unwritten online dating rules that you should know

Today, in the world of technology we must say that, a large numbers of people are now using online dating as their way of searching, meeting and dating people. In fact, a recent study shows that 40 million singles and still growing ventured into the online dating arena. I am pretty sure that you, who are a fun of using dating online services, know to protect your privacy on the internet - you know better than to provide personal information and to trust any Tom, Dick or Harry that comes along. But more of this, don’t you know that there are unwritten online dating rules that are essential to achieve a successful online dating?

Though there are successful love stories that were built thru online dating, there are also singles who failed to find their match. The first and most important online dating rules that we have to keep in mind when joining an online dating is to keep your expectations lower. Unfortunately, there are over 95%unsuccesful love match. Part of the reason for this, though, is that most people approach online matchmaking with unrealistic expectations. When they don’t find a perfect match after one or two dates they give up and try something else.

Second, take time to respond; don’t be too quick when replying. I know it’s quite exciting when someone appreciated your profile and contact you but slow down, relax, take a deep breath, and think for a while. If you do this, you will not sound desperate and you can carefully compose a thoughtful andappropriate response. Many online dating experts suggest waiting 24 to 48 hours to respond, and also say never to respond on a weekend or holiday.

Then, keep everything light, for instance, when you answer an email, keep the tone light and friendly. Online dating is not the right place to tell your life story, your past failed relationship neither your current emotional state. Be conservative with what you write. And, as always, don’t reveal personally identifiable information via online messages.

Be yourself. Tell the truth. Remember that once you meet in person, the truth will still be revealed. So, why need to fake your heights, weigths or complexion. Tell who and what you are from the very beginning. It’s pointless to lie about such things and it undermines trust right from the start. As Mark Twain once said – “When in doubt, tell the truth.”
Lastly, don’t stick to emails. Once you have exchanged few messages it’s time to either meet in person or move on. As general online dating rules, if more than 5 to 6 times of messages have been exchanged and you haven’t set up a date, it’s time to say goodbye.

These are just few online dating rules you have to keep in your mind. You might find a successful and perfect match, maybe, if you know how to enjoy and have fun with online dating.
